NDS assists you in formulating your product to meet your nutrient marketing goals or advise you on FDA claims that can be put on your label.

Market Goals

If you want your product to fit a specific market niche such as the low carbohydrate food market, or the low cholesterol product marked and your product label for these nutrients is not meeting your desired niche, we can advise you on the ingredient amounts that should change to meet your goals.

Standards Goals

If you are trying to match your product to state or federal school lunch programs, American Heart Association requirements, or other organizations standards, NDS can advise on reformulation to meet the requirements of those programs.

Food and Drug Administration Labeling Regulations

FDA labeling regulations allow two types of claims on your product label:

• Nutrient content claims: for example "Reduced Fat", "Low Sodium", "Low Calorie", "Rich in Calcium", etc. 
  
  Each nutrient content statement must meet specific nutrient values before the statement can appear on the food label.
  

• Health claims: link nutrient values with health status. "Sodium & Hypertension", "Dietary Fat and Cancer", "Calcium and Osteoporosis" are some examples. 
  
  A "Sodium & Hypertension claim would read: "Diets low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure, a disease associated with many factors"

There are specific food nutrient requirements associated with each health claim statement and the wording of any claim is FDA regulated.
