Major Food Allergens
FDA Food Labeling Regulations

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires food labels to include a declaration of major food allergens.

There are eight major allergen categories

  • Milk and milk by-products
  • Eggs
  • Fish, listing specific fish name
  • Crustaceans, Shellfish
  • Tree nuts, listing specific nut name
  • Peanuts
  • Wheat of any type
  • Soybeans

Two different formats are acceptable for this declaration. You can have a statement following the ingredient list which says "Contains the following allergens: _______________, ___________. "

Or you can place parentheses within the ingredient list and indicate when a ingredient contains an allergen that is not readily apparent. For example: Semolina (WHEAT), Whey (MILK)

NDS is able to provide an allergy statement for your product we must have the full disclosure ingredient list to do an accurate job in identifying the possible allergens.

Please contact us with any questions.
